A Shoot to Remember...

Last week, I had a fantastic shoot with Jess, a visiting model from Vancouver, Canada! Jess was extremely easy-going, and her personality kept the energy up during the shoot :) Crystal, one of my photography students, assisted me during the shoot and made it possible for me to use off-camera flash in the windy conditions atop the hills at Kakaako. Thanks Crystal!!

Jess was striking a lot of dynamic poses, so I attempted to match her energy with some edgy and dramatic light. For most of the shoot, I used a SB900 and a 16 inch softbox as fill light to balance with the sunlight. We were very fortunate to have a wonderful sunset and some killer clouds towards the end of the shoot...gotta love Hawaii :)

To me, the best way to learn is by doing, so I gave Crystal my camera during part of the shoot. She went to work and got some really cool angles like in this image :)

As the sun was dipping below the horizon, I noticed some dramatic clouds looming over the hill. Totally stoked, I had Jess and Crystal run to the top of the hill, and started madly firing off shots while the clouds were still moody. The images turned out to be our favorite from the shoot :)
