Mask Making!

This month, UH Outreach College hired me to do a series of photoshoots covering community events that the College is putting at public libraries across the island. This image is from a mask-making workshop at Waipahu Public Library. Yukie Shiroma led the workshop, and helped about six kids and their parents make masks out of construction paper. It felt amazing to watch the enthusiasm and energy that the kids put into their artwork, and then see the pride and joy when they displayed the final product! Even though this workshop was for kids, an elderly Chinese lady came in by herself a little after the workshop started. She sat down, and started making her very own mask, quietly searching for crayons and color markers.  Art can keep you young at heart :)
