Places: University Lab School

I learned a great deal both about myself, and about education, at ULS, without being a student there. From 2007-2011, I co-taught a multimedia class with Chris Zorn in the CRDG Summer Program, teaching 3rd-6th grade students about photography and videography through a perspective of environment conservation. After the program finished, I helped with the Summer Adventure Program, where students got to do activities like hiking in Kaneohe, exercising at the UH pool, and playing organized sports.

During the school year, Chris and I built up a multimedia program for the students, which eventually grew into a successful program, which continues to this day. I remember dropping into the class every week while I was at the MEdT program at UH to do lessons with the students about photography, teaching things like lighting and observation. Chris and I would have long talks about what how we could improve the program, and pour over the latest gear online. It was here that helped me decide that I really wanted to pursue photography on a professional level, eventually leading me to become a wedding photographer. 

Lots of great memories on this campus, whether it was hiking with the students, hanging out with the other teaching aides, or doing workshops with Chris at KCC :)

I used to sit on this bench during my lunch break while we would clean up the school before the students started their summer session.

This is the room where Chris and I taught the Digital Media summer class, as well as the Multimedia class during the actual school year. 

We'd take the Summer Adventure kids in this bus when going on field trips to places like Kokohead, Waimanalo Beach, and Maunawili Falls.
