About a week ago, I was invited by my friend Rowen to do a shoot with his niece, Joy. She brought a unique combination of wushu and costume making skills to the shoot, allowing for some very cool photos! We shot in Manoa, but unfortunately, it was cloudy and the lighting was flat. To counter this, we experimented with strobist lighting and focused on using grids and gels.
This shot was taken by twisting my camera while using a slow shutter speed. Rowen was holding a gridded SB900 off to camera right, which is why Joy remains sharp despite the intentional blur.
